About the Playwright

Matt Smith is a Seattle-based playwright who writes comedies about navigating a bruising world. His play Artist Retreat has been produced at schools across the United States. The Last Quest of Visilock, in collaboration with Westlake Theatre, premiered at the 2022 American High School Theatre Festival at the Fringe. His plays have appeared at the Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival, Balagan Theatre, Duquesne University, Playlist Seattle, the Eclectic Theatre (Los Angeles), Pittsburgh New Works Festival, Pittsburgh Playwrights’ Theatre, and 14/48: The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival. His play The Hanford Invasion! was developed at the 2018 Seven Devils New Play Foundry, finalist for the Woodward/Newman Award (2022) at Bloomington Playwrights Project, and featured as part of Macha Monkey’s Distillery reading series in 2017.
