ORB QUEST: THE QUEST FOR THE ORB
by Sawyer Quinn Brown
Wyn, a newly-minted “wizard” with a brand-new wizard badge, recruits a tall dwarf, Hilda, and a forest elf, Acetaminophen (“Ceta” for short) to go on a quest to defeat the evil queen by finding the orb of Mags Guffin. Along the way they encounter a swamp lion, have to traverse the Lair of Nozid (whatever that is), deal with some very rude bully wizards, and come face-to-face with a dragon, among other things. Not to mention those strangely familiar-looking tavern workers in each town…
A loving homage to classic fantasy novels and role-playing games, Orb Quest: the Quest for the Orb features a cast of 8 (with doubling) and so, so many bananas. The final installment of the Banana Trilogy (whose stories are unrelated except for using bananas as props).

About the Playwright
Sawyer Quinn Brown graduated MCLA with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in Creative Writing in 2008. In 2015 a short script they co-wrote won Best New Work in the Alternatives Play Festival, and in 2019 their first full-length script, ‘Captain Cobalt vs. the Sinister Scientist’, was performed in NYC and in Boston. ‘Captain Cobalt’ has subsequently been published on Scripts for Stage. Their play ‘Space Team Go!’ was recently published by Next Stage Press. They live in Chicago, IL with their two cats.
Sawyer Quinn Brown may be the funniest spoofer of genre stories working today. In “Murder in a Cemetery” they took on horror. In “Captain Cobalt vs. the Sinister Scientist” it was superheroes. And here in “Orb Quest” (if you find the title confusing, there is a helpful subtitle), they affectionately lampoon sword-and-sorcery fantasy–although the swords, and all the rest of the props, are replaced by bananas, a hilarious conceit which is becoming something of a SQB trademark. It’s another in a growing list of easy-to-produce Sawyer Quinn Brown plays that will delight audiences and be great fun for actors and designers.
