GUENEVERE
by Susan Cinoman
Guenevere is a darkly comic feminist retelling of the King Arthur legend where it’s Guenevere, not Arthur, who is the rightful ruler of England- and proves it by not only pulling the proverbial sword from the stone, but through her wit and leadership capabilities. Arthur, along with his paramour, Morgan, Guenevere’s half sister, vie for power and control of Camelot until Guenevere, through many personal losses, reigns victorious.

Guenevere cuts through the classic Arthurian legend with a sharp sword to make us rethink what Women have to do to succeed and to be seen while they are doing it. Susan is a master of dark, comedic dialogue that makes you laugh in spite of yourself. A fresh, contemporary story that releases powerful women from the rock that has held them stuck for ages.
Susan Cinoman’s GUENEVERE upends the traditional King Arthur legend by putting Guenevere center stage. A foundling who is tricked into squandering her birthright, she embarks on a journey to right wrongs, lead her country with loving wisdom, and oust a certain sword-from-the-stone swindler. Funny, theatrical, a wickedly clever, GUENEVERE is one of the most exciting new plays I’ve seen in years.
Guenevere is a highly imaginative retelling of the Arthurian myth, as seen through a modern female lens. Susan Cinoman has created sharp and engaging characters that lead us through this legendary tale, filled with clever surprises and dramatic plot twists and turns. The dialogue sparkles with humor, wit and most importantly, truth. Guenevere is a thought provoking play, that offers colorful and attention grabbing roles for the entire cast.
A fantastic adaptation of a timeless classic. Guenevere turns the traditional story of King Arthur right on its head. A brilliant analysis of gender roles and the unfair expectations of women in society.
