ANDRE THE PROPHET

Andre returns home expecting a graduation party only to run face first into his unreconciled past and discovering that his mother (Maxine) is missing. In a flashback, Andre recounts coming out to his mother but is interrupted by his sister (Angie) who wants him to detect if her husband is gay because as children Andre had prophetic visions. In a vision he sees his ancestors and sits down with them for a game of Spades. Through this Andre finds his mother and comes to the realization about himself and why he has been drawn to self-destruction.

About the Playwright

Cleo House-Keller is the Director of the School of Theatre & Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University. His works Sarah Then and Now & The Woman Who Can’t Say I’m Sorry have been published as part of the Bishop Arts Center’s Monologue Project. His play Jamestown appeared as a part of the Fade to Black Reading Series. YaYa and the Golden Throne is his first published full length play and he is the author many false starts and undiscovered master pieces. He is a Helen Hayes Nominee and has won numerous awards as a director for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
