About the Playwright
Marina Shron is a Russian-born, New York-based playwright, filmmaker, and author. Her plays, including KING OF RATS, CHRISTINA, TIME AND THE BEAST, EDEN, and MITYA’S ORDEAL have been produced and workshopped at such venues as Soho Rep Theater, New Georges Theater, Lincoln Center Directors’ Lab, Playwrights Horizons, and ChaShama. She has received awards for her work for stage and screen from Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Jerome Foundation, James Thurber Foundation, Fund for Mutual Understanding, and Mac Dowell Foundation, among others. Marina’s short films, including LULLABY FOR RAY and SEA CHILD (described by critics as a “haunting portrait of grief and desire in the tradition of Terrence Malik”) won prizes and screened at numerous festivals including Fantasia, Atlantic, Hamptons, and Toronto. BUDDHA’S LITTLE FINGER (starring Toby Kebbell), a feature she co-wrote with the director Tony Pemberton, was produced by Rohfilm, Germany, and Telefilm, Canada, and released in 2016. Marina co-authored a critically acclaimed book of nonfiction “Red Blues: Oral Histories of Russian Immigrants.” A former Fulbright scholar, she teaches screenwriting at The New School, NY, and at Rhode Island School of Design.
