Murder in a Cemetery
by Sawyer Quinn Brown
A group of unusual characters gather for the vampire Lady Sanguina’s crypt-warming party. But halfway through Sanguina’s after-dinner speech, she coughs up blood and falls down dead. In this zany comedy, a vampire, a nonbinary zombie, a werewolf who doesn’t know she’s a werewolf, and the butler, Igor, among others, must race to find the perpetrator of the murder before the sun comes up.

Producers, if you’re looking for something different for your Halloween programming, here’s a terrific alternative to the usual fare. It has everything to please an audience–mystery, comedy, and a variety of supernatural beings and clueless humans. Set designers, costumers, and actors will all have a ball doing this one. Highly recommended.
How fun is Murder in a Cemetery!? Brown presents us with a very humorous take on the murder mystery genre by setting it in a graveyard and filling it with beautifully crafted queer & otherworldly characters. Super fun dialogue and comedic situations. A double murder (a Vampire and the nonbinary Zombie who survives their death – LOL) at a dinner/cocktail party in the Vampire’s crypt. Clue meets Rocky Horror. A boisterous farce.
Oh my gosh, this play is so much fun. A vampire has been murdered at her crypt-warming party. Who could the murderer be? This play is delightful from start to finish as you watch the investigation unfold. What a clever, fun play for Halloween season or anytime!
A perfect trifecta of Christie homage, Clue, and supernatural horror comedy, Brown’s play is just everything. Everything I love in a play. Everything I want in a play. Everything everybody deserves in a play. Read the character descriptions and first page alone, and you’ll be sucked into wanting to produce, act in, direct, and have anything to do with its macabre, campy, gloriously horrific playground. Hilarious, charming, wholesome (aside from the titular murder), and precisely the kind of play that doesn’t get produced enough. We should amend our mistakes.
