Nutcracker: Krakatuk

by Andra Laine Hunter

Nutcracker: Krakatuk is the adapted origin story of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s hero, the Nutcracker. When Madam Mouserinks suffers a terrible loss at the hands of Drosselmeier, she takes vengeance on the arrogant King and Queen by uglifying Princess Pirlipat. Can Drosselmeier and the Royal Astronomer find the hard nut Krakatuk in time to save the princess?  With a cast of larger-than-life characters, Krakatuk is a delightful exploration of Hoffmann’s zany world. I loved this play! It is a great script! It has all the elements to make a wonderful play. The writing is clear and easy to follow and allows for the development of deep characters. The potential exists for colorful and fun costumes. Some scenes show warmth and passion. As in most good plays there is a fight scene that is very exciting! I would give this play a 10 out of 10.

I loved acting in this play. It was such an amazing experience because I felt like an actual actor and not a kid (I am 12). Also, the characters in the play were wonderful, each of their personalities were so well though out and the words really made it all come to life. Some of my favorite scenes included scene 6, 9, 5 and 10.

Our first but....not our last!

To begin, this was our first time experiencing a performance, by Linden Grove, and across the board we all gave a resounding cheer to the dedication, enthusiasm, commitment, design, and creative script this play delivered to us and others. This play was our introduction into a world of wonder, creativity, courage, and a unique awareness of others. We would like to say to all the cast, backstage, audio, video, co-director and director, a heartfelt thank you for giving us the opportunity to share a magical evening, at the theatre.
